In this blog post, I will outline the Top 5 Internships in Colorado:
1. Child Health Research Internship by Children’s Hospital Colorado Description: The summer program will introduce students to research opportunities related to child health.
This includes opportunities for students to participate in a weekly lecture research series as well as present their research at the completion of the internship.
Dates: The 2024 summer program will begin Monday, June 3, 2024 and end Friday, August 2, 202
4. Eligibility: High school senior over the age of 18 Students must be available for the entire nine-week internship.
High school students must be Colorado residents.
Students who are under the age of 18 before the internship starts on June 3 will not be eligible.
Stipends: Each intern will be provided a stipend of $3,500 to assist with travel and housing costs.
Student research presentations: At the completion of the program, all research interns will provide a written summary of their research experience, contributions and accomplishments.
In addition, all students will provide an oral or poster/PowerPoint summary of their research.
Students and mentors are encouraged to produce abstracts for submission to local, regional and national meetings.
If the students’ research is accepted for presentation at a scientific meeting, the Child Health Research Internship will provide funding for travel and registration for the student to travel to one scientific meeting.
2. Lockheed Martin Space High School Internship Description: The Lockheed Martin Space High School Internship program offers students a chance to work with aerospace scientists and engineers.
The program is only open to students who reside within a commutable distance of Lockheed Martin’s nine locations across the country, as this is a non-residential internship.
Eligibility: 16 years of age Live within a commutable distance of a participating Lockheed Martin Facility.
Some of our main facility locations include: Sunnyvale, CA Boulder, CO Littleton, CO Colorado Springs, CO Huntsville, AL Courtland, AL King of Prussia, PA Valley Forge, PA Cape Canaveral, FL Some virtual positions may be available Currently enrolled in high school Capable of demonstrating knowledge & passion for STEM Application Deadline: Typically close in January Dates: 9-10 weeks during the summer
3. Denver Health High School Internship Medical Career Collaborative Description: The Medical Career Collaborative (MC2) is a health careers pathway program designed to provide youth, starting in high school, the opportunity to gain experience and exposure to the world of healthcare and access to ongoing support in their pursuit of healthcare professions.
From paid internships and mentorship to certification opportunities and career coaching, MC² broadens students’ horizons and builds a strong foundation for a future career in healthcare.
How to Apply?: MC² is offered at Denver Health and several Children’s Hospital Colorado locations, including Anschutz Medical Campus (Aurora), North Campus (Broomfield), South Campus (Highlands Ranch) and Colorado Springs.
Applicants only need to fill out one application to be considered for any of the MC² program site locations.
Applicants must be current high school sophomores at the time of application and attend school in the Denver metro or Colorado Springs areas.
If accepted, students begin the program at the start of their junior year.
In an effort to build a workforce that better represents the communities served in healthcare, MC² focuses on recruiting students from groups that are underrepresented in the healthcare industry.
Students are chosen by a committee that reviews all applications.

4. Build a Better Book
- University of Colorado Description: The Build a Better Book Teen Internship at the University of Colorado Boulder is a 4-week paid summer internship based on the University of Colorado Boulder campus.
Each year, 12-16 interns from a variety of high schools in the Denver metro area complete a 100-120 hour internship, working in teams to fabricate accessible products for community clients. 2024 Program: The 2024 BBB Teen Internship application is closed.
The 2024 BBB Teen Internship will run June 17
- July 19, 2024 (no program the week of July 4th).
The program meets Mon / Tues / Thur / Fri from 9am
- 4pm each day.
Eligibility: Rising 10th-12th graders who are at least 14 years old are eligible to apply.
Previous experience in engineering is not required.
Across all sites, Build a Better Book strives to provide opportunities for students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to participate in an out-of-school-time engineering internship experience.
We strongly encourage students from the following backgrounds to apply: Underrepresented in science and engineering, including girls, African American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American students LGBTQ+ students Underserved, such as coming from low socioeconomic means, which may be indicated by qualification for free/reduced lunch Potentially the first family member to attend college Absence of science and engineering degrees in family Coming from a high school with low admittance rates to top-tier colleges, especially rural or predominantly minority high schools All applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered, regardless of race or ethnicity.
5. Summer High School Intern Program by the National Institute of Standards and Technology Description: NIST research is subdivided into six organizational NIST laboratories that conduct research in a wide variety of physical and engineering sciences.
The labs respond to industry needs for measurement methods, tools, data, and technology.
Six laboratories participate in the SHIP program.
Application Process: A brief resume that should include your name, email address, high school, GPA, and graduation date.
An unofficial or official copy of your school transcript.
Names and email addresses for two people who are willing to provide a recommendation (STEM).
The First recommendation must be from a STEM teacher.
The Second Recommendation can be from volunteering at events at school or elsewhere, a coach, or another teacher (who may or may not also be a STEM teacher).
A personal statement (up to one page).
Availability Form signed by you and your parents indicating your availability for the full, eight-week period during the summer if you accept the position.
